The Effects of Combined Strength and Endurance Training

چکیده
There are several marked adaptations associated with the regular performance of endurance training. Aerobic endurance training produces increases in VO2 max (13, 7, 8), but has no hypertrophy effect on muscle (6). Muscle fibre size has actually been shown to decrease (15, 11). Capillary supply to the muscles has been shown to change in response to endurance training through an increase in the capillary to muscle fibre ratio (16, 9). There is an increase in the number as well as the size of mitochondria, the latter of which is associated with an increase in certain enzymes (8). These increases are most apparent in the type I fibres as they have the highest content of mitochondria. Smaller increases in muscle and blood lactate levels are produced at the same relative exercise intensity after completing an endurance training program (8, 7). Glycogen is depleted less rapidly when trained than when untrained (8). The decreased use of carbohydrate during submaximal exercise is compensated for by a proportional increase in fat oxidation (8, 9). There is also a decrease in heart rate response during submaximal exercise (7). Several of these adaptations are in direct contrast to those associated with strength training.

Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental research, 40 Retired elderly woman of education (Age: 60.34±0.82 year, High: 155±0.01 cm, Weight: 71.72±1.89 kg) wer...
متن کاملComparison of the effect of combined physical training (endurance, strength) with and without flaxseed on the levels of estrogen, lipid and body composition of inactive menopausal women
Background & Aim: Increase in cardiovascular disease risk factors in postmenopausal women is because of adverse changes in plasma lipoproteins due to the lack of estrogen. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of combined training with and without flaxseed consumption on estrogen, lipid level and body composition in sedentary postmenopausal women. Methods: In this...
متن کاملThe Effect of Resistance Training on Levels of Interlukine-6 and High-Sensitivity C - reactive protein in Older-Aged Women
Introduction: Aging is associated with elevated levels of some proinflammatory factors and exercise is a non-invasive intervention to improve immune function among older adults .The aim of the study was to compare resistance training effects on interlukine-6 (IL-6) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in older-aged women. Methods: The study was quasi-experimental and for...

Background and Aims: Parkinson Disease (PD) as a second neurodegenerative disease has grown in developed and industrial countries due to high life span, and in Iran it is considered an important neurodegenerative disease either. The drug therapy of PD must be paralleled with other treatments because the age of PD occurrence has decreased in recent decades and disturbed active population life st...
متن کاملHeart Rate Dynamics after Combined Strength and Endurance Training in Middle-Aged Women: Heterogeneity of Responses
The loss of complexity in physiological systems may be a dynamical biomarker of aging and disease. In this study the effects of combined strength and endurance training compared with those of endurance training or strength training alone on heart rate (HR) complexity and traditional HR variability indices were examined in middle-aged women. 90 previously untrained female volunteers between the ...
